Sneak Peek of “Lexi’s Love & War” – Pt. 2 of Chapter 1

Last week, I shared the first half of chapter one in my upcoming Wattpad novel, Lexi’s Love & War. I published the first book in the Lexi’s Series, called Lexi’s In A New City, about a year ago, and I’m gearing up to start uploading chapters of the sequel next week.

So, without further ado, here’s the second part of chapter one in the upcoming Lexi’s Love & War!

In the same apartment complex only one floor up, Cassie Peil and Mariana Bruno had finished moving into their place about an hour ago. They played pop music and relaxed in their new home with little care for anything.

“This is a cute place!” Mariana exclaimed. “I love it.”

“Me too,” Cassie said. “It’s nicer than our dorm from last year. I was worried that this place would be a dump, so it’s nice to see that I was wrong.”

Mariana nodded. “Yeah, I kinda had the same thought.”

“I’m also excited for second year to start,” Cassie added.

“I’m nervous ‘cause my course load has intensified tenfold! I knew things were gonna get serious, but it’s way more than I expected. I hope to God I can handle it.”

“Yeah, I’m feeling the same way. I had to choose more specific psychology courses to narrow down my focus, which is on young people. There were more courses to choose from than I thought, so I just loaded them up.”

“That sounds risky.”

“Yeah, but it’ll be worth it. At least, I think it will be in the long run.”

“Maybe then you’ll finally stop trying to get Isaac back.”

Cassie’s body stiffened. She’d spent summer trying off and on to win Isaac back, but it hadn’t worked. She bit her lip just thinking about how every attempt had failed. It had been beyond frustrating, but that didn’t mean that she had planned on stopping now that school was about to start again.

“Sorry, but it’s true,” Mariana continued.

“I’m not giving up, Mariana,” Cassie declared. “The only reason I wasn’t successful during the summer was because we were both busy working.”

That was part of the truth, but both girls knew the main reason lied in the fact that Isaac simply wasn’t interested. They’d both heard about him dating during summer, which enraged Cassie. She kept this to herself because she didn’t want to upset Isaac. But the idea of seeing him with another girl hurt more than she cared to admit.

“Well, I hope it goes well,” Mariana relented. “I’m only worried because I don’t wanna see you hurt again.”

Cassie nodded but didn’t say anything else on the matter. She’d worry about winning Isaac back later. Right now, she wanted to enjoy her new apartment with her best friend.

Isaac Ambros stretched out on his bed in his new home— a three-bedroom, one-bathroom rental house that he would be sharing with friends Felipe Rodriguez and DeShawn Lexington. It was cheap, and only a ten-minute walk from campus— perfect for the three NYU students. It wasn’t gorgeous or fancy, but it was home. Isaac was happy to be living with all his friends for a change, rather than just one or the other.

This year’s gonna be better, he thought. I hope I’m right about that.

Isaac heard his friends talking without him, so he decided to leave his room to see what was going on. He saw DeShawn standing in the doorway of Felipe’s room, and walked towards his friends.

“Oh, hey, dude,” DeShawn greeted.

“Hey, what’s up?”

“We’re just discussing when we’ll hang out with Nikita and Lexi. They moved into town today,” Felipe chimed in.

Hearing Lexi’s name made Isaac grin. He hadn’t seen her since the last party of the school year, which happened back in April. Since then, the pair had texted here and there during summer. They had talked about their respective jobs, and Isaac mentioned how their mutual friends were doing every now and then. Knowing that Lexi was now back in New York City was something to forward to.

“Hopefully, we’ll hang out soon,” he suddenly remarked.

“Maybe Cassie and Mariana will come, too,” DeShawn added. “Is that alright?”

“Yeah, it’s fine,” Isaac replied.

“Just don’t mention that you’ve been on a lot of hot dates!” Felipe joked.

Isaac’s chuckle was hollow. “None of them were ‘hot dates’, and you know it.”

“Yeah, I heard. Was the last one just as bad as the rest?”

“She just wouldn’t shut up about herself! I don’t mind someone telling me about themselves, but all she talked about was herself. I don’t think I ever got one word in about myself.”

“Jesus…sounds like you still have had no luck with dating,” DeShawn commented.

Isaac didn’t need to be told that; he already knew. All the dates he’d gone on during summer had been nothing short of terrible. He didn’t think he attracted the wrong girls on purpose, but he was starting to wonder if he was wrong about that. Regardless, he brushed the thought away.

“I’m done dating,” he said. “I’m sick of going on shitty dates. Now that school’s starting again, I have something else to focus on instead. Besides, I like being single, so I’m gonna relax and not think about dating.”

DeShawn grinned. “That’s not a bad idea, dude.”

“And hey— if you end up changing your mind, I hear Cassie still wants you!” Felipe chuckled.

“Yeah, that’s never gonna happen. Anyways, let’s see if we can all get together tomorrow. I’m sure everyone just wants to relax today after moving in.”

“Good idea,” DeShawn replied.

With that, the three decided to play video games in Felipe’s room for a few hours that night to unwind after a crazy day.
