I can speak from personal experience when I say that goals are important. They’re crucial for me to succeed. Even as I type this, goals are helping me in becoming healthy, working hard and making more time for my friends. I rely on goals more than I care to admit in order to do my absolute best in anything and everything.
But why are goals so important? To be honest, I hadn’t always known the answer to this question. But more recently, I decided to look into this further. I believe that knowing and understanding the importance of goals has helped me want to stick to my goals now more than ever before. With that, here are just three of many reasons why goals are so important and why everyone should have at least a few for themselves.
1. Goals give you focus
If you wish to achieve something, it’s best to know how to do it. More importantly, it’s best to keep your focus on what you want to achieve. That’s where goals come in. Goals help you focus rather than force you to waste time figuring out what the hell to do. It may seem a bit intimidating, but believe it- it’ll all be well worth it in the end.
2. Goals help you to measure progress
Think of something that you want to achieve. Whatever that may be- moving out on your own, working for yourself, starting a YouTube channel, etc.- they all share one thing. That common thing is that they take time and multiple steps in order to properly achieve. It’s important to have a major goal that you want to achieve (like the ones mentioned before). But it’s just as important to create smaller goals that will help you reach said major goal. Measuring progress is key so that you can see where you’re at and how much more you have to do before you’ve achieved your major goal.
3. Goals can motivate you
For me, having a goal- no matter how big or small- motivates me to achieve it. I want to achieve it because that makes me feel good. Cheesy? Sure, why not. But I have no shame when I say that having goals that I want to reach only wants me to hit them sooner than later. That’s the great thing about goals- they motivate you to become better, as well as motivate you to reach the aforementioned goal. Talk about a win-win scenario!
