How to Fake Confidence

Confidence is something that’s incredibly important to have. While it’s important all the time, there are certain occasions where having a lot of confidence is needed more so. Having said that, it isn’t always easy to be confident. I deal with this from time to time; and I’m sure others do as well.

Sometimes it’s necessary to fake confidence. It’s not something one should do on a regular basis, but it can be needed. So if you’re looking to fake confidence for one reason or another, that’s totally okay! Here are three tips to help you fake confidence for any occasion at all.

1. Make eye contact with others

Eye contact is an excellent way to increase your confidence, even if it means faking it. When you look someone in the eye, they’re compelled to look at you and subordinate everything else to that connection with you. Therefore, that person is unable to leave your gaze. Whether you’re speaking to just one person or multiple people, maintaining eye contact will help increase your confidence. Not only that, but it can also help others think about you in a more positive light. They’ll also be less likely to look away and/or become distracted.

2. Sit or stand tall

Slouching is an easy yet bad habit to get into doing. It’s something that you really, really shouldn’t do. If you sit or stand up straight, you’ll project a heightened version of yourself. You’ll then appear confident regardless of what you’re feeling inside. In addition, you’ll look as though you’re ready to speak, respond, and contribute in a confident manner. Also- if you have the option to either sit or stand, choose the latter. That will help with the authority in your voice when you speak to others.

3. Speak slowly and clearly

A great way to fake confidence is by ensuring that your voice is both slow and clear. You want the pace of your voice to be slow enough to keep nervousness at bay by appearing as though you’re comfortable speaking to others. But that’s not the only thing you should do with your voice. You should also make sure that you’re always articulating your words properly. Putting commitment and energy behind your words will help you sound more confident. Mumbling will do you no good; speak slowly and clearly at all times. This will help others to understand you, as well as help you fake confidence in the process.
